Overview
Ask anyone in Barsac who makes the best wine in the appellation, and the answer is almost always the same: Climens, "the Lord of Barsac." It sits on the highest point in the appellation, makes its wine from 100% Sémillon, unusual since most neighbors blend in some Sauvignon Blanc, and has spent the last decade and a half as one of Bordeaux's most committed biodynamic producers. Where Yquem, its more famous neighbor across the river in Sauternes proper, leans opulent, Climens is built for finesse: lighter, fresher, structured around the acidity its all-limestone soil gives the wine.
